CHRISTINE JOANNE BUCHANAN

May 17, 2023

Christine JoAnne Buchanan, resident of Limon, Colorado, passed away on May 8th, 2023. Christie is survived by her daughter Kelsey Forbes, her fiancé Nic Cooling, her two children, Lilly and Brogan (Madelia, Minnesota); mother Kathleen Thorson (Colorado Springs); brother Aaron Thorson (Colorado Springs); nephew Nathanial Ekberg (Burlington); extended family, and special “family” and friends collected over her lifetime.

Christie was born to Lief Thorson and Kathleen (Schiffner) Thorson on October 7, 1963 and was raised in an agricultural environment in Eastern Colorado. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1981 and went on to attend NWKTVS where she received her certificate in cosmetology. She also attended Colby Community College and Morgan County College with a focus on business.

In her 20’s she had various jobs ranging from aerobics instructor to dispatch for the then booming oil fields. Favorite employers included the Morgan County Extension Office supporting four full time agents and Sterling Beef where she was executive secretary and assisted in the sale of the plants to Excel Corporation.

Christie’s first job in Limon was directly after the tornado working for the Limon Leader typesetting and selling advertising. She enjoyed marketing and meeting Lincoln County business owners and organizational directors. In 1993 she began what was to become her career in the legal field. Christie was employed as a paralegal for over 27 years and enjoyed the variety of clients and situations encountered on a regular basis. Christie was true and accountable to clients and became a confidant and friend to many of them.

Christie also enjoyed traveling. Other than the US, Christie traveled to Canada, Mexico, Wales, England, and Japan. One of her favorite trips was to St. Louis with her best friend, Linda. What a trip it was! And, even after all of the “on the road training”, she still could not fold a map.

Christie was an election judge and also involved with several organizations including the Limon Promotions Council, Limon Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Lions Club, SHARE, and Bountiful Baskets to name a few. Her favorite events included the James Dean Daze Classic Car Show and the horseshoe tournament that stemmed from that event.

The community sadly lost an important member and Christie will be missed.  A Celebration of Life to remember Christie will be held in September 2023 in Limon, CO.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Burlington, Colorado, in the Wayne and Hildur Schiffner plot.

Cards may be sent to PO Box 562, Limon, Colorado, 80828. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your community and set a good example for those around you regardless of their age. Tomorrow is another day, Scarlett.
