Eugene “Gene” George Mease, 84, of Limon, Colorado, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on December 24, 1940, in Arriba, Colorado, to Francis Ralph and Dorothy Irene Mease, Gene met his future wife, Mary Jane, when he was 16 years old. The couple was married on June 10, 1960, in Denver, Colorado, and spent more than 65 years loving each other.
Gene had a long career in trucking, beginning with driving a milk truck, graduating to a bread truck, and eventually driving an 18-wheeler. His work was a significant part of his life, and he took great pride in it.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; children Rob (Melinda) Mease, Steve (Lacreata) Mease, and Melissa (David) Bower; grandchildren Ryan (Derek) Bozworth, Preston Mease, Vana (Jared) Mitchell, Kyle Huff, Michelle Hattaway, Ethan (Sahvanna) Mease, Katy (Coy) Molner, and Matthew Huff; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Ralph and Dorothy Irene Mease, and his siblings Ralph, Gary, and Sharon.
A memorial service was held at Limon Methodist Church in Limon, Colorado, on April 7, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Gene’s name.
