JAMES (LEROY) MOSHER

Posted

James (Leroy) Mosher was born on October 8, 1956 to Donald E. Leroy Mosher and Wilma Phillips Mosher in Flagler, Colorado. He joined older brother William Eugene on the family ranch south of Hugo, Colorado. Later Donna Lonene would be added to the family. He passed from this life July 3, 2024 at the age of 67.

Leroy attended Hugo Public Schools from Kindergarten through Twelfth grade, graduating with the Class of 1975.

February 14, 1990, he was joined to Abby Warren in marriage. Instantly, Leroy was blessed to stepparent Wendy and Ben. Norman Eugene was born on October 1, 1994. He loved his family and was very proud of their achievements.

As a child, he took to everything dangerous or mischievous, usually landing without injury but, stitches, dislocated shoulders, and broken bones were common. Naturally drawn to the sport of rodeo, he competed in steer riding, and then bareback bronc riding. Success followed him in this athletic pursuit until injuries prompted his retirement.

A sensitive kind and gentle soul, Leroy was a lifetime lover of animals. He could often be found snuggling baby kittens and loved his puppies and grown dogs. Leroy loved life on the plains, his ranch and enjoyed his cattle, horses, hunting and fishing.

He was an inventor and a chef, mastering the prime rib that he cooked for the Lincoln County Stockmen banquet and family gatherings. Being a lifetime student of history, he often engaged in stories of the pioneers on the plains, civil war, the world wars and American history.

Leroy loved his nephews and nieces with all his heart and had a unique and special relationship with each. When the great nephews and nieces came along, he delighted in them even more.

Leroy is preceded in death by his father, Don Mosher, brother, Bill Mosher, and nephew Matt Mosher. He is survived by his mother Wilma Mosher of Hugo, CO; sister Donna Metcalf (Rich) of Limon, CO; sister-in-law Carlene Mosher of Karval, CO, children Wendy (Tate) Rusk, Emma and Grant of Westcliffe, CO; Ben Warren (Kim) Cody, Molly, and Matthew of Casper, WY; and Norman Mosher, of Las Animas, CO. A host of other relatives and friends also grieve his passing.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Lincoln Community Hospital “New Hospital Fund” because of the kindness and compassion shown in his final days.

A graveside service was held July 8 at the Boyero Cemetary followed by a gathering of friends and family at the Eastern Trails Depot in Hugo, CO.
