Limon Scout completes Eagle Scout Project

Posted

By Stephanie Zwick

Tyler Zwick, a current member of Limon Scout Troop 52, has completed his Eagle Scout Project. He has spent years learning from great leaders and growing through experiences in Cub Scouts and BSA Scouting. As a result of these formative experiences, Tyler developed strong values and leadership skills that guided him throughout his journey.

For his Eagle Scout Project, Tyler chose to provide the community with an outdoor American Flag retirement drop box.

With support from the Limon Fire Department, the box was installed outside their office. This new resource allows all community members to safely retire their worn American flags. The fire department collects the flags and ensures they are properly retired.

Tyler was able to fund the project with donations from community members and the Limon Fire Department. These contributions helped him buy materials for the concrete base, construct the drop box, and commission a dedication plaque. He dedicated the box to all Military, Law Enforcement, EMS, State Patrol, Division of Wildlife (DOW), and Firefighters.

Tyler’s commitment to respecting the American flag reflects the values he developed through years of service and leadership in scouting and the history of his great grandfather’s service in the Army and Navy. He recognized that old, damaged flags were often discarded in the trash. Believing that the flag deserves better treatment, he created this drop box so the community can honor and retire their flags respectfully.

Throughout his years in scouts, Tyler contributed in many meaningful ways. By placing and picking up flags at the Limon cemetery for Memorial Weekend, Tyler helped honor local veterans and foster community spirit.

He assisted with the community food drive organized by the Methodist Church, supporting their Christmas baskets program for families in need.

Tyler participated in “Scrub the Hub” by picking up trash, helping keep the town clean.

He proudly carried the American or Colorado flags during the Homecoming parade, showing his dedication and pride for his community.

Tyler also demonstrated leadership among younger scouts. He played a key role in scouting events such as the Klondike Webelos adventure in Hugo, where he mentored newcomers. During the Spring Camporee at Bethune, he was instrumental in helping in the cook tent. Each of these activities added value to the community and strengthened the bonds among local scouts.

Tyler’s experiences in scouting not only benefited those around him but also shaped his sense of duty, honor, and respect. Through his Eagle Scout Project and ongoing service, he continues to make a positive impact on Limon and its residents.

Tyler wanted to express heartfelt thanks to his scout leaders, both past and present, for their mentorship throughout his journey.

He is grateful to the community for supporting scouting fundraisers, which made so many activities possible.

Tyler especially appreciates the Limon Rotary for organizing annual events that bring scouts together, and Limon Fire for teaching important safety skills. He also values the ongoing guidance and encouragement from his teachers and 4-H Leaders, who have helped him grow and succeed.
