Marilyn June Behrens, a cherished music teacher and beloved matriarch, embraced her earthly journey from March 8, 1944, until Heaven received her on February 18, 2025. Born in Limon, Colorado, to Glen and Margaret Rector, June grew up surrounded by the wide-open spaces of the family farm in Agate, Colorado, where she cultivated her lifelong affinity for community, music, and family.

June’s extensive career as a dedicated educator began at Strasburg Elementary, where her passion for nurturing young minds through music shone brightly. She further enriched the lives of countless students as the talented show choir director at Strasburg High School. Her commitment to education was matched only by her devotion to her church community, where she served as the director of the Strasburg Community Church Choir. Across her endeavors, June’s spirit was one of joy and enthusiasm, qualities that radiated in her interactions with those lucky enough to know her.

Her love for music manifested in her remarkable ability to play the piano, organ, clarinet, and guitar. Whether dancing joyously at community events or volunteering with Meals on Wheels, she sought to touch the lives of others with her talent and warmth. June’s heart resided wherever her grandchildren were, ensuring that family moments were filled with laughter and love.

On a bright September day in 1966, June joined in matrimony with her beloved spouse, Dana Behrens, at the Agate Baptist Church, beginning a partnership rooted in mutual respect and affection. Together, they celebrated many milestones of life with their children Kevin Behrens and Tanya Garwood and her husband John.   Soon came the joy of their grandchildren Miranda Elmgreen and her husband Austin, who recently welcomed June’s great-grandson Gunnar into the world, Zachary Garwood, and Cassidy Garwood.   The bonds within her family were strengthened by unwavering support from her sister, Colleen Pakuer, and brother-in-law Floyd Pakuer, as well as from her brother, Andy Rector, and his wife, Joan Rector.

June leaves behind a vibrant legacy interwoven with kindness, music, and a profound dedication to family. Those fortunate enough to have been part of her life will gather to honor her memory at a celebration of life service scheduled for March 8, 2025, at Mountain View Fellowship Church,10 am,  in Strasburg, Colorado.

As we remember Marilyn June Behrens, let us celebrate a life full of passion, music, and giving—a life that inspired and uplifted all who had the privilege of knowing her.
