Michael was the first child of four born to Lloyd and Louise (Avis) Parmalee. He grew up in a very large and very close-knit extended family.
He graduated from William C Hinkley High School and was an avid reader. He was also a dare devil from an early age; a bit of a rebel whose childhood heroes included Evil Knievel, Daniel Boone, and Zoro. These heroes inspired jumping his 3 speed Schwinn over whatever he could, pole vaulting off the house, digging tunnels to the neighbor’s garage with his lifelong best friend Stephen Rice.
As he got older, Mike also did more “mother approved” ventures like roller speed skating, motor biking, gymnastics and his favorite and most accomplished, waterskiing. Mike competed in Slalom, did some trick skiing and could barefoot waterski.
Mike took pride in being the fourth generation from Colorado and third from Aurora. He shared with his family the love of classic country music and country dancing. Mike and his brother Dave could be found nearly every night at the local pubs with the “Good ’Ol Boys” He was a very good dancer. During this chapter of his life he found out he had a son he was never to meet but ever present in mind, Christopher Michael Mycek.
Mike always enjoyed the outdoors, animals, nature and studied many American Indian tribes. It was often said he lived 200 years later than his soul.
This interest moved him into endeavors such as being a “buckskiner” at Mountain man Rendezvous, learning leather crafts and bead work. As well as giving him the opportunity to be a stunt man in a small film company with his good buddy Nick. Most importantly, it lead him to the love of his life Kathy Owen and her son Jason.
The family soon extended with his beloved two daughters, first Andrea and then Mikaella. They lived a life of centuries ago. Living off the land in a tipi up above Como, CO. They attended annual rendezvous with good friends, Terry and Crazy bear, earning the name Mouse Skinner upon acquiring the detailed skill of skinning and tanning mouse hides for keepsakes.
Mike was proud of the fact that he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather in serving our great country.
In 1975 Mike enlisted in the United States Navy as a weather forecaster on the USS Kittyhawk Aircraft Carrier, with the rank of AG3. His tour took him to the South China Sea, Philippines, and Thailand.
In later years Mike enjoyed the company of his many friends at the VFW. They made him feel very at home and he very much appreciated their friendship, expressly Paul, Jim, Lisa, Bruce.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Parmalee, mother Louise (Avis) Parmalee, and sister Katrina Parmalee. He is Survived by his daughter Andrea Parmalee; daughter Mikaella (Kasey) Artichoker; son Christopher Michael Mycek; brother David (Tanya) Parmalee; sister Stacey (Clayton) Phythian; grandchildren Arabella Jackson; Skyler Jackson; Vance Jackson; Kandallyn DeLeon, his best friend/cat Dusty; his ex-wife Kathy Owens; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
